Finding One’s Place: Local Art

V–A–C Sreda online magazine continues its three-month programme dedicated to memory and its relationship to history, archives, and nostalgia.

Why do contemporary artists turn to historical heritage? What is the value of reinterpreting local traditions? What does “collectible design” mean? And where is the line between authentic folk craft and kitsch?

V–A–C Sreda editor Maxim Shibaev considers these and other questions with Daria Kolpashnikova, a curator and PhD in Art History; Misha Maslov, an architect and the head of the [MISH] architecture and design studio; and Nikita Lukinsky, a designer and the author of the “Unezhit dushu” Telegram channel.
