Museum of Disappeared Villages: Remembering to Forget

V–A–C Sreda online magazine continues its three-month series of podcasts dedicated to unusual museums in Russia in collaboration with the “Zapovednik” project.

In this episode, we talk about the fate of historic settlements. What is the mission of the People’s Museum of Disappeared Villages in Sepa? Where is a bridge between modern and traditional cultures to be found? What are performative feasts?

These and other questions are discussed by Maksim Shibaev, an editor at V–A–C Sreda, and Tatyana Mosova, director of the Sepa House of Culture and the Pyotr Valentinovich creative association, whose members collect folklore songs and regional variants of their performance and study the traditions of village festivals.
